Find your zen and find the right yoga retreat for you!

27 February 2024

Deciding that you are going on a yoga retreat is the first step in self-care. There are now so many options that choosing one can have the opposite effect of what you are looking to achieve. This blog gives you some ideas on what to consider when looking for a yoga retreat to make the process simpler, so that you can enjoy the process of looking forward to your yoga retreat.

Location, location, location! – Decide if you would prefer a retreat in a remote natural setting, by the beach, in the mountains, or within a city. Consider the climate, environment, and accessibility (especially if you are taking public transport). Forest Retreats is an eco-retreat based at Hill Farm, Tintern, surrounded by woodlands and overlooking the Wye Valley (so feels mountainous too!).

Theme – Understand the theme of the retreat. Some may focus on relaxation, meditation, detoxification, physical asanas (poses), spiritual growth, or a combination of these elements. Choose one that aligns with your intentions and goals. We host a number of retreats at Hill Farm, run by different teachers including men’s retreats, Wim Hof retreats, slow living and wild woman retreats. Something to suit almost everyone.

Style of yoga – Different retreats may offer various styles of yoga, such as Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, or specialised practices like Yin or Restorative yoga. Select a retreat that offers the style you prefer or want to explore.

Accommodation and facilities – Consider the type of accommodation offered – shared rooms, private rooms, yurts, camping, or luxury suites. Also, check if the retreat provides amenities such as spa facilities, or outdoor activities such as tennis or volleyball. For example, Forest Retreats mostly operate yoga retreats from Hill Farm, Tintern – an eco-retreat centre in The Wye Valley with both yurt and self-contained accommodation, and within the mid-range budget. However we are now also offering luxury retreats in the Costa Brava, Spain which is very different to our usual offering: Check out this stunning villa

Budget – Determine your budget for the retreat, including accommodation, meals, and any additional activities or services. Compare prices of different retreats and ensure that the chosen one fits within your budget. Also explore if payment plans are available, which we are pleased to be able to offer at Forest Retreats. Every little helps!

Size – Consider the size of the retreat—whether it’s a small intimate group or a larger gathering. Think about the atmosphere you prefer—quiet and introspective or lively and social.

Reviews: Read reviews from previous participants and seek recommendations from friends, family, or online communities to gauge the retreat’s reputation and quality. Many of our reviews are on Google, so check them out!

Additional offerings – Some retreats offer workshops, excursions, cultural experiences, or holistic therapies alongside yoga sessions. We generally offer forest bathing (Shinrin Yoku), which is a lovely complimentary practice to yoga. Click here for more information on what Shinrin Yoku is all about.

We hope this blog helps you to decide the yoga retreat that ticks your boxes so that your investment in time and money is used wisely and helps you to have the wonderful experience you deserve.
